We Will Be Human?

I've Been Saved Since I Was Nine — And I Just Realized Something I Never Thought About

It's Me, JUSSKYIA!

I need to be honest about something.

I have been saved since I was nine years old. I have loved Jesus for as long as I can remember. I have never doubted that He is who He says He is, that the Bible is true, or that eternity with God is real. I have never wavered on any of that. Not once.

But the other day I was listening to a conversation — a theological discussion about nature, personhood, and the human spirit — and something hit me that I had never actually stopped to think about. The speaker, Avery from God Logic, was talking about the fact that when everything is said and done — when we are living in the new heaven and the new earth with God — we are going to be human.

And I sat there and thought... I don't know why I never thought about that.

I don't know what I thought we were going to be. Maybe spirit? Maybe something similar to angels? Maybe something I never bothered to define because I was just so grateful to be going? I think that's actually the truth — I was so excited about being saved and spending eternity with God that I never stopped to ask what I would be when I got there.

And I realized that if I never thought about it, there are probably a whole lot of other believers who haven't thought about it either. So I want to share what I've been studying and meditating on, because this has genuinely deepened my understanding. This is me learning out loud. This is a teachable moment — for me first, and now for anyone who needs it.

We Will Be Human. Really, Truly, Physically Human.

Not ghosts. Not spirits floating on clouds. Not angels. Human. But a glorified, perfected, upgraded version of human — the version we were always meant to be before sin broke everything.

And the biblical foundation for this is solid.

The Anchor: Jesus's Resurrected Body Is the Prototype for Yours

Everything we know about the resurrection body starts with Jesus Himself. First Corinthians 15:20 calls Him "the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." Firstfruits means He is the first sample of the harvest. What happened to His body is what will happen to yours. So if you want to see your future, look at His resurrection body.

After the resurrection, Jesus was physical. He was not a ghost. He made that clear:

"Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have." — Luke 24:39

He showed them His hands and feet. He ate broiled fish in front of them (Luke 24:42–43). You do not eat fish if you do not have a stomach. He had a body with flesh and bones. He could be touched. Thomas put his finger in the nail marks and his hand in the wound in Jesus's side (John 20:27). The wounds were still there. The body was real.

But the body was also different. He appeared in a locked room (John 20:19). He appeared and disappeared at will (Luke 24:31). He was not always immediately recognized — Mary Magdalene thought He was the gardener (John 20:15). The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked with Him for hours without recognizing Him until He broke bread (Luke 24:13–35). The body was the same body that was crucified — same wounds, same flesh — but it was transformed. It had new capacities. It operated by different rules. It was physical but no longer limited by the physics that limit us now.

Paul Breaks It Down: Four Upgrades

Paul gives the most detailed teaching on the resurrection body in 1 Corinthians 15:42–44:

"The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body."

Four contrasts:

Perishable becomes imperishable. The body you have now decays. It ages. It gets sick. It breaks down. The resurrection body will never decay, never age, never get sick, never die. Ever.

Dishonor becomes glory. The body that was broken and buried — the body that carried every scar, every illness, every mark of a hard life — is raised radiant. Glorious. The dishonor is reversed.

Weakness becomes power. Every limitation you live with now — the fatigue, the pain, the physical boundaries — removed. The resurrection body operates in power, not weakness.

Natural becomes spiritual. And this is the one that trips people up. They hear "spiritual body" and think "non-physical." But that is not what Paul means. A spiritual body is not a body made of spirit. It is a physical body fully powered and directed by the Holy Spirit. Right now your body is a natural body — animated by biological processes, subject to decay, limited by physics. Your resurrection body will be a spiritual body — animated by the Spirit, immune to decay, operating by kingdom physics. Still a body. Still physical. Still you. But upgraded beyond anything you can currently imagine.

You Will Look Like You

This was the part that really got me. You will be recognizable. You will look like you.

The disciples recognized Jesus. He had the same wounds. He had the same voice — Mary recognized Him when He said her name (John 20:16). He had the same mannerisms — the Emmaus disciples recognized Him when He broke bread. He must have had a distinctive way of doing it (Luke 24:30–31). Your resurrection body is not a replacement. It is a transformation of the body you have now. The same body, glorified.

I keep thinking about it like this: the caterpillar does not become a different creature when it becomes a butterfly. It becomes what it was always designed to be. The blueprint was always in the caterpillar. The butterfly is the fulfillment, not the replacement.

Philippians 3:20–21 says it directly:

"We eagerly await a Savior from heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."

Your body will be like His glorious body. Whatever Jesus's resurrection body is — physical, touchable, capable of eating, recognizable, and glorified — that is what yours will be. His body is the template. Yours is the copy.

Your Humanity Was Never the Problem

Here is the part that shifted something in me theologically.

You will be human forever because God designed humanity as something good. Genesis 1:31 — God saw everything He had made, and it was very good. Your humanity is not a problem to be escaped. It is a creation to be redeemed. The goal of salvation is not to get you out of your body. It is to get sin out of your body and glorify the body that remains. God does not throw away His work. He resurrects it.

That is why the new creation is a new heaven AND a new earth — not just heaven alone. God is not evacuating us from the physical world. He is renewing the physical world and giving us renewed physical bodies to live in it. We will walk on real ground. We will eat real food — the tree of life bears fruit every month (Revelation 22:2). We will drink real water — the river of life flows from the throne (Revelation 22:1). We will see with real eyes. We will embrace people with real arms. The new creation is not less physical than this one. It is more physical — physical without the corruption, without the decay, without the pain.

You Are Not Becoming an Angel

I want to say this clearly because I think a lot of us have absorbed this idea without realizing it: you are not becoming an angel. Angels are a different category of being entirely, and you were never meant to become one. You were made human on purpose. God chose humanity as the thing He would inhabit in the incarnation. Jesus became human — and He stayed human. He ascended in a body. He is seated at the right hand of the Father in a body right now. There is a man on the throne of the universe. And He will have a body forever.

The incarnation is permanent. God became human and never stopped. That means your humanity is dignified forever. The God of the universe chose to become what you are — and He chose to stay that way for eternity. Your flesh is not a prison. It is a temple — because the Son of God decided it was worth inhabiting permanently.

So What Will Eternity Actually Look Like?

You — the fullest, most complete, most alive version of you that has ever existed. The version of you that sin prevented. The version of you that God always intended. The version that finally matches the blueprint.

In a body. On a renewed earth. With the people you love. In the presence of the God you love. With no sickness. No aging. No pain. No death. No tears. No limitations. No decay.

And it will not be boring. It will not be sitting on clouds playing harps. It will be reigning with Christ (Revelation 22:5). It will be exploring a creation that has been renewed and expanded beyond anything we have seen. It will be worshipping with a joy that never runs dry. It will be relationship — with God and with each other — without any of the brokenness that makes relationship painful now.

I'm sharing this because I think there are people like me — people who have been saved for decades, who love Jesus with everything in them, and who have never actually stopped to think about what the resurrection body means. We say "new body" in church and nod. But we've never sat with it. We've never asked: what does that mean? What will I be?

And the answer is the most beautiful thing I've heard in a long time: you will be you. Fully. Finally. Permanently. The you that was always in God's mind when He formed you in the womb. The you that sin obscured but could not erase. The you that the resurrection will reveal.

I've been saved since I was nine. And I'm still learning.

That's the beauty of this walk. You never stop discovering who He is and what He has planned.
